A couple of days ago a visitor of our website contacted me and asked this question that “am i allowed to post Adf.ly links on my free WordPress.com blog ?”.
He was new to blogging and it was his first blog that he wanted to monetize with Adf.ly but somebody told him that your blog will be penalized if you post Adf.ly links on it, so, he was little confused whether to use Adf.ly links or not.
I answered his question and cleared all his doubts regarding using Adf.ly on free blogs. After i answered his question i thought it would be great if i create a post on this topic so that others can also be benefited with it.
So, without making any more delays let’s answer this question.
YES, you can use your Adf.ly links on your free WordPress blogs to monetize it. Actually you can use Adf.ly on any free blogging platform like WordPress, Blogger etc.
Will You Get Penalized For Using Adf.ly Links ?
No, you won’t be penalized for using Adf.ly or any other URL shortener links on your website. You just need to keep few things in your mind to keep your blog safe from any kind of penalties.
When you use Adf.ly links then make sure to use ‘Nofollow’ attribute with them. This will stop your website from passing link juice to Adf.ly links. Actually when you use Nofollow attribute on a link then it doesn’t allow search engines to follow it and they don’t consider that link as a ranking factor for the linked website.
But, if you use ‘Dofollow’ attribute on any link then it means you are passing link juice to that website. In simple words you allow search engines to follow it and use it as a ranking factor.
When you give Dofollow link to any website or webpage then search engines consider that the linked website has some quality content and that is the reason why you are linking to it. This improves the overall ranking of that website or webpage.
Why You Must Avoid Giving Dofollow Links To Adf.ly’s Shorten Links ?
As Adf.ly’s shorten links add no value to search engines and people use them for monetization purpose only so these links are not considered good and you must avoid giving Dofollow links to them. By default all external links on our websites are Dofollow links. There is no need to use Dofollow attribute to make a link Dofollow.
But, if you want to make a link Nofollow then you must use Nofollow attribute with that link.
In Blogger, by default you get an option to Nofollow a link whenever you post any link on your blog. You just need to check the checkbox for that and your link will become Nofollow. But, if you are using WordPress platform then you need to add Nofollow tag manually in your links.
Some people may say that there are some plugins available for WordPress but after the Gutenberg update lots of Nofollow plugins have stopped working or they are not functioning properly. But, somehow if you know some plugins that are working fine then please share it with us. It would be a great help for our visitors.
How To Add Nofollow Attribute To A Link Manually ?
In WordPress you first need to post any link then go to text editor section and there you can add Nofollow tag to your link like this:
Normal Link:
<a href=”https://adnetsreview.com/”>Ad Nets Review</a>
After Using Nofollow Tag:
<a href=”https://adnetsreview.com/” rel=”nofollow”>Ad Nets Review</a>
You can see it’s extremely simple to add NoFollow attribute to any link. This simple attribute will save you from facing any kind of penalty.
Other Ways Of Avoiding Penalties:
You can also use link cloaking plugins to avoid penalties. You can see on our website that i use link cloaking plugins to cloak our affiliate links. This protects our website from getting any penalties from Google or other search engines.
Actually link cloakers use your own domain to cloak affiliate links and at the same time they allow you to nofollow affiliate links. So, you can use any link cloaker plugin to cloak and Nofollow your Adf.ly links.
There are two very popular link cloaking plugins that i use on our website. These plugins are Shortlinks By Pretty Links and Easy Affiliate Links.
