Bluehost is one of the most popular hosting providers in the market. And, when it comes to WordPress hosting then it becomes the most recommended host on the internet. Bluehost is a good hosting option for anyone who wants to start his/her WordPress website.
I am saying this because Bluehost offers one of the cheapest hosting plans for starters and that too with a free domain name. Also, it is one of the officially recommended hosts by WordPress.
As it provides you a free domain name with its hosting plan, so, it saves you around 10-12 bucks, which is a great deal for any starter. But, after one year you have to pay around $16 to renew your domain name. In addition to that you’ll also have to pay around $15 for your domain privacy protection which is really high if you compare it with other domain registrars.
So, overall this sums up around $31 which i don’t find beneficial in anyways. You can see my last year bill where they had charged me $30.87 for domain and privacy protection renewal.
Namecheap is one of the best domain registrars in the market. Personally i am using it from years and it has never disappointed me with its service. I had purchased my second domain from it when i started blogging a couple of years ago.
Last year i also tried its shared hosting for one of my website and it was good too.
The best thing about Namecheap is, it is quite cheap as compared to most of the domain registrars. It not only registers domains at cheaper prices but it also renews them at cheaper prices. And, the best of all it provides free WhoisGuard subscription for your domains, which always remains free.
Why Should You Transfer Your Domain To Namecheap ?
Before i start telling you how to transfer your domain from Bluehost to Namecheap, i would like to tell you why should you transfer your domain to Namecheap ?
There are two reasons for transferring your domain to Namecheap:
- It is much cheaper than Bluehost
- You should always keep your domain and hosting at different places.
Having your domain and hosting at different places make it easier to switch your hosting from one host to another. Also, in case your hosting account gets hacked, you will have the access to your domain.
What Happens when you transfer your domain from Bluehost to Namecheap ?
When you transfer your domain from Bluehost to Namecheap then it gets renewed for one year. There is no transfer fees at all. The only fees that you have to pay is your domain renewal fees which is quite low on Namecheap.
Typically a domain renewal on Namecheap costs you around $8.88 only.
How to Transfer your Primary Domain from Bluehost to Namecheap ?
The process of transferring your primary domain from Bluehost to Namecheap is simple. To transfer your domain, you need to make some changes in your Bluehost account.
First login to your Bluehost account then click on the domains tab to reach the domains manager section of your account.
When you reach the domains section then simply select the domain that you want to transfer.
Now click on lock tab and then click on ‘unlock your domain‘ button to unlock your domain.
Unlocking your domain will allow the new domain registrar to transfer your domain.
Once you have unlocked your domain then you need to click on transfer EPP to get your EPP code.
Inside the transfer EPP section you will see your domain’s EPP code. Simply copy this code as you will need it to transfer your domain to Namecheap.
Note: Make sure not to tell your EPP code to anyone. I have blurred my domain’s EPP code for security reasons.
Now, you have done everything on Bluehost’s side so, you need to move on to Namecheap.
Things to do on Namecheap:
Simply visit Namecheap.com.
Now, hover over transfer to us and select transfer domains from the list.
Once you click the transfer domains then you will be asked to enter the domain name that you want to transfer. Simply, enter your domain name like “bestgadgetslist.com” and click on transfer button.
When you click on transfer button then you will be taken to a next page where you will be asked to enter you EPP code. This page will also show the registrar lock status of your domain. If you have successfully unlocked your domain then you will be shown an unlocked status.
Your domain must be unlocked to allow transfer.
There you will also see checkbox that will ask you to retrieve your domain’s contact information. Simply tick this checkbox and click on add to cart button to make payment and create your Namecheap account.
Once you have done the payment and created an account then you will be able to access your Namecheap dashboard.
During this entire process you will get an email from Bluehost about the transfer of your domain. The email will notify you that you have initiated a domain transfer. It will provide you a link to cancel the transfer if you have not initiated it.
To fasten your transfer, again visit your Bluehost dashboard and then visit domains section. Select the domain that you want to transfer and click on transfer EPP.
There you will see two links – click here to approve the transfer & click here to reject the transfer.
Simply click the “click here to approve the transfer” link to approve your transfer.
Once you click it your domain will be transferred to name within 10-20 minutes.
Inside your Namecheap’s dashboard, you can see your domain by clicking the domain list tab present on the left side of your dashboard.
Can’t see your Domain in Domain List ?
Your domain is not visible in the domains list section because it is still waiting the release from your previous registrar. This process usually takes 10 to 20 minutes once you approve your transfer. However, if you have not approved your transfer in your Bluehost account then this process may take up to 5-6 days to transfer your domain.
To see the status of you domain transfer in Namecheap account, simply click on Domain List tab. There you will see a small button with an eye on the top right of your screen. Just click on it and select the all products from the list. There you will see your domain with an awaiting release notification.
Once Bluehost releases your domain then it will start showing on your Namecheap account.
Namecheap is one of the best domain registrars in the market, so, if you want to transfer your domain from Bluehost then i will strongly recommend you to go for Namecheap only. I am already using it for my domain and it is providing a great service to me.
Bluehost on the other hand is one of the best hosting providers in the industry so if you are planning to start your WordPress website then you can go for Bluehost.
